About Us
In 1993, Sister RoseMary Boessen, RSM formed La Posada Ministry under the auspices of her religious order, the Sisters of Mercy. In 2004, La Posada was incorporated as an independent public charity whose mission is to work with our communities to provide assistance to those less fortunate in south central Idaho and northern Nevada. To this end, La Posada Inc. provides immigration assistance within immigration law, counseling, emergency assistance, a low-income taxpayer clinic, notary services and Spanish plus English translations.
La Posada’s primary outreach was first started to help the Spanish speaking immigrant and migrant worker community, although, during the past 26 years we have seen many changes in our community. These changes have been driven by economics as well as an influx in population in our area.
La Posada’s Immigration Program offers affordable immigration services in south central Idaho; encompassing 8 counties as well as Jackpot, Nevada. Our staff is bilingual and bi-cultural and are also Bureau of Immigration Accredited.
Our Low Income Taxpayer Clinic ensures the fairness and integrity of the tax system by providing free representation to taxpayers that cannot afford professional services, speak English as a second language and for those in controversy with the IRS. Our clinic now employees a full time tax attorney to represent clients in court and to assist with audits and collections. We are an IRS certifying acceptance agent for Individual Tax Identification Numbers.
Through our Mercy Pantry our main focus is to help stabilize households with emergency assistance to families and individuals that have lost their jobs and/or homes or for those that have experienced life changing circumstances.
